Dana Guynes, DPT, Cert. MDT, COMT

Dana Guynes, DPT, Cert. MDT, COMT, received her Master of Science and Physical Therapy degree from the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2000. She later completed her Doctorate of Physical Therapy through Marymount University in 2008.

Dana developed a special interest in treating patients with spinal pain and pursued a Certification in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (Cert. MDT) through the McKenzie Institute, a philosophy of active patient involvement and education used by practitioners and patients all over the world for back, neck and extremity problems. She later went on to obtain a Certification of Orthopedic Manual Therapy (COMT), a world-renowned system for management of neuromuskuloskeletal conditions, developed by Australian physiotherapist, Geoff Maitland. Most recently, she has been trained in a technique called “dry needling” which helps release trigger points with a very thin fillament needle and ultimately decreases pain and restores range of motion.

In addition to physical therapy, Dana has worked as an ergonomist (designing the job, equipment, and workplace to fit the worker), and has also presented lectures on “Posture and the Spine” at Susquehanna University and the United States Federal Reserve. She has always enjoyed many different sports and athletics, but now focuses mainly on running, volleyball, and soccer. She has a 2 year old baby girl, and balances her physical therapy career with motherhood.
